Here Is ONE Way To Start!
There’s an old saying, “Yard by yard, life is hard. Inch by inch, life’s a cinch.”
As spouses and parents we often find ourselves keeping too many plates spinning in our lives.
Lots of spinning plates = lots of STRESS.
Stress results in tension.
Tension, that mental and physical feeling of tightness and lack of peace inside us, makes us unhappy and irritable. Prolonged stress can result in actual health problems. Stress-related problems can be physical, emotional and even affect our relationships for the worse.
How Do I Make My Life Less Stressful?
Focus On Today!
Rick Warren made an interesting observation about the Lord’s Prayer recently. In the prayer Jesus says we should pray to God, “Give us this day our daily bread”.
Warren asks, Why didn’t Jesus say, ‘Give us this day our weekly bread, or even our monthly bread?’
Could it be because God wants us to trust him one day at a time?
God teaches us this principle repeatedly in His Word. We don’t need to be concerned about tomorrow until tomorrow -- next week until next week.
Don’t Stress Over Future Events
It is highly unproductive to stress about future events and tasks. What IS productive is to focus on what we need to accomplish today.
Stressing about events in the future (that have not even occurred yet) takes away from our energy and ability to do the best job we can do with today’s challenges.
Our goal should be to do the best job we can with today, and then string these day by day successes together. The result will be a happier and more stress-free life for us.
Today’s Trouble Is Enough For Today
Just a few verses after Jesus tells us that we should ask God daily for our bread (i.e., what we need to sustain us for the day), Jesus brings His lesson on daily living to an insightful close.
“So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today” (Matthew 6:34 NLT).
Since we don’t know what ‘worries’ await us tomorrow, Jesus says don’t allow tomorrow – which has not even happened yet – to take away your focus on TODAY.
Deal with today’s challenges today. Then, tomorrow – deal with tomorrow’s challenges.
The secret to a more enjoyable, successful and stress-free life is to take it 1 day at a time.
